Key Chord Progression Types
- Minor Key Tension (i – VI – III – VII): A quintessential moody progression, for example, Am - F - C - G.
- The Jazzy Lounge ((ii-V-I)): Often used in slower, trip-hop, like Dm7 - G7 - Cmaj7, adding a laid-back feel.
- Dark Minor Loop ((i-VI-v-i)): A minor, F major, E minor, A minor, providing a haunting, repetitive tension.
- Descending Moods: Utilizing minor 7ths or diminished passing chords to create a, haunting atmosphere (e.g., (i-vii^{\circ}-vi)). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Common Trip Hop Characteristics
- Jazz Extensions: Instead of simple triads (e.g., A-C-E), use 7th or 9th chords (A-C-E-G-B) to create a more sophisticated, "worn-in" sound.
- Slow Tempo: Chords are typically looped over slow, heavy, vinyl-style hip-hop
